In a time where women and people of color must band together to boldly face adversity, Carmen Ortiz-McGhee has been developing a culture of inclusive leadership throughout her career. The daughter of a single Puerto Rican mother who built a career in military intelligence during the 80s and 90s, Carmen has always been focused on rectifying a lack of economic opportunity for underserved communities. From her college days, when she co-founded the University of Virginia Latino Student Admissions Committee, to her work today in the alternative investment industry, her goal has always been to remove the barriers that stand in the way of diverse communities' success and vibrance. As Chief Operating Officer of the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC), a trade association and the largest network of diverse-owned private equity firms and hedge funds, Carmen oversees all NAIC programs, initiatives and key industry alliances. With a membership of 112 members, managing over $180 billion in institutional capital, as COO, Carmen is also responsible for ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness across the organization. 

A passionate advocate for the growth and success of women and people of color in business, Carmen has been quoted in Nonprofit News and Infrastructure Investor, and speaks at various venues and organizations including, the Get Money: The Comeback Edition hosted by NMSDC and MBDA; Hispanics in Philanthropy; St. Francis College’s Women’s Empowerment Forum; Flourish Conference for Women; Aon’s Women’s International Network; the Women of Color Foundation; American Greetings Women’s network events, among others. A Dean’s List graduate of the University of Virginia where she received her BA in Psychology, Carmen has blogged for Huffington Post, sits on the MBA Fund I Investment Committee, the Hispanics in Philanthropy PowerUp Fund Impact Cabinet, is an executive committee member of the national board for Communities in Schools, former executive committee member of the NEA Foundation board and former board chair of the New America Alliance Inc.
