By Communities In Schools | Aug. 2, 2024

Funding to Help Expand Crucial Services to 130,000 Students Across 200 Additional Title I Schools Nationwide

Communities In Schools® (CIS®), the nation’s leading provider of K-12 school-based integrated student supports, is the recipient of a $225,000 grant from Comis Foundation. The grant will provide funding over three years and enable CIS to expand its crucial services to 130,000 more students across 200 additional Title I schools nationwide.

CIS has set an ambitious goal to expand its presence into every Title I-eligible school in the country, aiming to build a robust support system for the 12 million students living in poverty.

Comis Foundation's grant marks a significant milestone in CIS's mission to ensure that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status, receive the support they need to succeed.

"Comis Foundation recognizes that talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not,” said Anne Walter, Comis Foundation Trustee. “A high-quality and equitable education system can reduce barriers to opportunity and transform lives. In this spirit, the foundation supports organizations like Communities In Schools that help level the playing field for students."

The CIS National Office will use the funds to enhance organizational capacity, strengthen support for its national network, and expand its integrated student supports model.

"We are incredibly grateful to Comis Foundation for their generous support," said Rey Saldaña, National President and CEO of Communities In Schools. "This grant will significantly bolster our efforts to bring our evidence-based model to new schools and provide vital resources and support services to more students, helping them to overcome barriers, stay in school, and achieve in life."

At Communities In Schools, integrated student supports connect schools and students to essential resources. This approach ensures students can easily access basic needs, mental health services, tutoring, mentoring, job readiness, and other vital resources.
