Welcome to Communities In Schools’ Robert H.B. Baldwin Fellows program Web site. The program addresses the issues surrounding leadership retention, development, and transition in the nonprofit sector.

Increased turnover coupled with a growing demand for services in the coming decade will place ever greater demands on nonprofit organizations. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there will be nearly 3 million openings overall in executive, managerial, and administrative positions by 2008. This loss of experience and skills means that nonprofits must begin planning now to develop a new generation of leaders.

Named after CIS’s founding board chairman, the Robert H.B. Baldwin Fellows program brings together current and emerging leaders to learn from each other and develop long-term leadership sustainability through one-year full or part time fellowships. The Fellows program was based on best practices from existing initiatives, consultation with CIS network leaders, and outreach to other national nonprofit fellows or leadership programs.
