Hot Dog Tailgate Party at the Cleveland County Jamboree

Date: August 20, 2010
Time: 5:30 pm
Location: Shelby High School

There’s nothing quite like enjoying a hot dog with all the fixin’s while watching your favorite football team win the big game! At our annual hot dog tailgate, you can get a first look at this season’s four local high school football teams while supporting Cleveland County youth and Communities in Schools of Cleveland County.

It only costs $5 for chips, dessert, drink and, of course, a hot dog with all the fixin’s- that’s chili, slaw, cheese, relish, kraut, jalapenos, hot sauce, condiments… you just name it! The hot dogs will be grilled to perfection on the “Big Green Egg,” courtesy of Future Energy Company.

We are also collecting school supplies through the annual School Tools campaign, a project of WSOC-TV Channel 9 Family Focus with additional sponsors Subaru and BB&T. If you bring school supplies, then you could win dinner at a local eatery. Hot dog!!

Communities In Schools is the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization.

The mission of Communities In Schools is to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life.

By bringing caring adults into the schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS provides the link between educators and the community. The result: teachers are free to teach, and students – many in jeopardy of dropping out – have the opportunity to focus on learning.

For more than 30 years, Communities In Schools has worked to ensure that every child receives these “Five Basics”:

A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult

A safe place to learn and grow

A healthy start and a healthy future

A marketable skill to use upon graduation

A chance to give back to peers and community
